Nicky Beaton and Simone Cole have been best friends since they were children growing up as next door neighbors in the town of Marsden. Despite their geographic distance in Nicky now living in New York City, they will be spending both Thanksgiving and Christmas together on Nicky's return for the respective holidays. Those holidays end up not being as either envisioned. After her first husband Ryan abandoned her and their now fifteen year old son Anthony years ago, flower shop owner Simone will imminently be getting remarried, this time to high school classmate Jeremy Winters. While Simone is bracing herself for the arrival back of who she considers Jeremy's overbearing mother Miriam Winters for the holidays, she is ill-prepared for the feeling she has of being shut out of the bonding that is going on between Jeremy and Anthony, especially in wanting that precious time with her son before he goes away to college in three years. And what Nicky believes will be her short Thanksgiving stay in Marsden ends up being extended to Christmas upon news that her parents, Linda and Dave Beaton, are selling the family home, making this holiday season their last in that house. In helping her mother pack up the house, Nicky discovers among her old high school things a never seen Christmas card that was apparently secretly placed in one of her textbooks. The card is truly a love letter from the unknown writer who didn't sign his name. While Nicky is now a successful businesswoman operating her own consulting firm, she has many insecurities from her high school days, and thus goes on a quest, with help from her parents and Simone, to discover who her high school crush was in needing that affirmation that high school was not all bad. While she is focused on that past, she may miss what is currently right in front of her in the form of Derrick Marshall, her parents' real estate agent who is a bigger part of Nicky's past than she realizes.—Huggo

It is especially difficult for more sensitive Ben who is going through his first case of puppy love for a classmate, Lily, from who he is not certain if the feelings are returned. On the feast day of the Irish Saint Colm Cille in 2012 the Poet Danny Sheehy and his crew delivered the gift of an Irish language Bible to the Saint's Abbey on the legendary island of Iona in Scotland.They rowed the 800km journey from West Kerry in in a Naomhóg (a traditional West Kerry rowing curragh/boat) following the coastal routes of their ancestors.This was one of many intrepid sea journeys for the crew and in 2014 they set their sights on an even more audacious voyage.For hundreds of years people sailed from Ireland to A Coruña in Northern Spain and walked the camino to Santiago de Compostela from there. After a global catastrophe nearly wipes out humanity on Earth, Earth's elites fled to Kepler-209 space colony. A young astronaut named Blake from the Kepler colony returns to Earth with fellow astronauts Tucker and Holden. Their mission is to test whether Earth is suitable for human habitation and reproduction. Kepler-209 residents have modern technology and space travel but they have become infertile from heavy radiation there. This is the second attempt to return to Earth.The space capsule lands roughly on a tidal flat near a weather beacon that broadcasts telemetry data back to Kepler-209. Holden is killed, while Tucker commits suicide after a band of fertile humans, nicknamed "The Muds", wounds him and captures him and Blake, and removes technology from the shuttle. Blake is imprisoned by the Muds and nearly drowns, but she is saved by a girl named Maila.The Muds are invaded by a hostile group that kidnaps all of them. They are taken to a cargo ship that rises above the frequent floods and storms. The aggressors are led by a former Kepler-209 resident named Gibson, who was a survivor from a previous Earth mission led by Blake's father, once thought to have no survivors as its capsule was destroyed along with its communication equipment.Blake realizes she is fertile, and she meets the children of the Muds, whom Gibson is educating. Gibson claims the Muds killed Blake's father, but Blake learns that he has been locked away because he sided with the Muds, believing that Kepler residents should never return to Earth. After a brief reunion, Blake discovers the girls are being held captive for Gibson's future breeding plans. She sides with the Muds, attacks the guards, and releases the girls and their families.She tries to stop news from Earth being broadcast back to Kepler-209, but Gibson sends the data. Blake strangles and drowns Gibson, almost drowning herself, but Malia's mother rescues her and revives her. Blake and her father rejoin the Muds and they set out in a tugboat.
